Rating Scales
Understand the 5-point and 7-point rating scales and when to use each.
Available Scales
Autousers supports two rating scale types, each suited to different evaluation contexts.
5-Point Scale
The 5-point scale ranges from 1 (Very Poor) to 5 (Excellent). It is the most commonly used scale for UX evaluations because it is simple for evaluators to use and produces clear differentiation between quality levels.
- Very Poor - Significant usability issues, fails basic expectations
- Poor - Below average, notable problems that hinder the experience
- Average - Meets basic expectations with some room for improvement
- Good - Above average, solid experience with minor issues
- Excellent - Outstanding, exceeds expectations across the board
7-Point Scale
The 7-point scale provides more granularity with additional intermediate levels. Use this when evaluators need to express finer distinctions, such as in research-grade evaluations or when comparing closely matched experiences.
Which Scale to Choose?
Use the 5-point scale for most evaluations. Choose the 7-point scale when you need finer granularity and your evaluators are experienced enough to consistently use the additional levels.
